The Condé Nast Obelisks
I’m standing next to one of the four stone obelisks on Putnam Avenue in Old Greenwich, CT. These granite giants were once the front gate to the Condé Nast printing empire.
From 1924 to 1964, this place cranked out Vogue, Vanity Fair, and House & Garden. The plant ran around the clock, pumping out over 250 million pages a year. Real train tracks ran right through the property to ship all that high-gloss culture across the country.
Today, the plant is gone. The Hyatt Regency moved in. But the obelisks are still standing. Weathered. Forgotten. Still kind of majestic.
🖤 A quiet tribute to a louder time.
